Tulum, Mexico August 2012 Part I

A summer vacation to a Spanish-speaking country is what we promised Mylo.  After seeking many options and hours of research, our friends Bill and Jessica invited us to Bill's beautiful home in Tulum, Mexico to enjoy some rest and relaxation.  We could of not asked for more; good friends, great beaches and beautiful waters, fabulous food, and above all - family time together.

Flying US Airways out of Norfolk through Charlotte, our exit from Virginia was seamless.  We arrived in Mexico to be greeted by Bill and Jessica, taking us to Casa Escasosa on the beach, just outside of the town of Tulum, about an hour south of Cancun airport.  Arrival to the house started with a round of excellent tequila shots and a tour of the house.

Our first few days were spent enjoying the beach at Playa de Carmen and relaxing at the house.  Playa de Carmen offers great beach bars and service to their loungers.  They also offer shopping and excellent deals on a massage; $18 for 70 minutes :)

Our trip also brought us to the small town of Akumal, just 15 minutes North of the house.  This small town offered great kiosk shopping, a nice bar and restaurant, and excellent snorkeling off the beach.  On our outings here, we were able to see green sea turtles, a multitude of colorful coral fish, a large crab, squid, and a few large game fish.
This was also Mylo's first time snorkeling, which was special.  We gave him a few bananas to feed the fish, which he truly enjoyed.
